Why a Medical Translators Database (c) ?

The Medical Translators Database(c) is the natural and logical extension of the Medical_Translation mailing-list,
a group for discussion of medical and pharmaceutical terminology
and other subjects of interest to translators specializing in medical texts.

The mailing-list was created by our dear colleague Tiina Onttonen
in June 1999.

The Medical Translators Database(c) is linked to my own Website,
and not to the Yahoo's site of the Medical_Translation list, because:
a) I've been the Moderator of the list since May 2002,
b) Our more than 730 members in February 2004, all with strong Medical
and/or Pharmaceutical backgrounds in their respective areas of expertise,
have clearly said that they did not want to depend on Yahoo's system
to promote their professional services.

The true reasons why this database was created are:
1) The numerous Web sites and on-line directories dedicated to translators,
and/or offering the opportunity of posting jobs for translators,
have lumped Medical Translators in with all others,
making it difficult for our very specific potential clients
and specialized agencies
to find the appropriately qualified translator they need at a glance;
2) Most of these Web sites and on-line directories are not free,
but require fees, most of the time from both outsourcers and translators.

How does it work?

How much does it cost?

Nothing at all, whoever you are (a client, an agency or a translator).

The language pairs

Please, in the table below,
select first the general source language (in white)
with the "Search" function of your browser,
then click on the desired pair of languages inside the source category.

(The number in brackets is the number of translators available
for a given pair of languages.)

Please note that the "general source language", then the "pairs of languages" categories inside every general source language, are classified respectively in alphabetical order.
